Competing for Active Capital Through Data-Driven Institutional Targeting

The competition for active institutional capital remains white-hot in 2026. As assets continue to transition from active to passive investment strategies, Investor Relations Officers (IROs) are under increasing pressure to do more with data, analytics, and intelligence to identify, engage, and win new institutional investors.

With the pool of active capital becoming more concentrated and selective, leading IR teams are adopting increasingly sophisticated targeting strategies to maximize the effectiveness of their outreach and investor engagement efforts.

This session will explore how companies across different market capitalizations and sectors are approaching institutional investor targeting today. Through a series of investor relations personas, attendees will gain insight into the strategies, priorities, and challenges shaping the pursuit of active capital, as well as the broader market trends influencing investor behavior and capital allocation decisions.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this program participants will be able to:

  • Determine how leading IROs leverage data, analytics, and investor intelligence to identify and prioritize prospective institutional investors.

  • Compare investor targeting strategies across market capitalizations, sectors, and corporate profiles to better align outreach efforts.

  • Assess the evolving role of investor intelligence as competition for active institutional capital continues to intensify.

  • Apply practical techniques to expand investor reach, strengthen engagement, and improve targeting effectiveness.
